My husband and I stayed at Simply St John for our honeymoon for two weeks. The view is breath taking, sunrises, sunsets,we spent our evenings and mornings on the deck..just beautiful. The villa is a perfect private place. We spent our days exploring the many many beach's,loved using the kayak, and I really enjoyed learning how to use the sup.....the kitchen has everything you need and the outdoor shower was a favorite of ours. We can't wait to return....It's a fantastic place.

We had the most wonderful honeymoon staying here. What a lovely place. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower, view, the birds. We had some great times paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkelling. Our favourite beaches were Maho, Hawksnest, Salt Pond and the Rams Head Trail were among our favourites.

“Simply St. John….Simply Paradise” Thanks Ed! Barb for sharing your wonderful. Home with us. So many things to see and do.

Snorkelled every day and escaped to remote beaches. Rams head hike- a must! Hope to return one day!

My boyfriend and I stayed from 4/29-5/4 and it was perfect from the second we got there. First off, the view took my breath away - pictures really don't do justice. It was the perfect place with every amenity we were looking for. The outdoor shower was a favorite and they provide you with everything you need for the beach (cooler, towels, etc.). The kitchen is also fully equipped. We had a great time going up and down the switchbacks in our rental jeep and saw donkeys every day. It was the perfect place for two people, not buggy at all and the temperature was also comfortable. We sat on the deck with a few blended cocktails playing cribbage or enjoying our morning coffee every day. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting and CANNOT wait to get back there!!! Thank you for a perfect vacation!!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Simply St John 2/9/15 - 2/13/15 and can't wait to get back. The other reviews here have all the amenities covered. A couple things demand emphasis: 1. The view is perfect. From the second you walk from your Jeep (yes, rent one) through the swinging doors it's all right in front of you. The cottages are perched high up on the hill so there's nothing obstructing the view of coral bay and there's always a nice breeze. 2. Even though there is another property next door, there is a great level of privacy. It was truly the getaway we were looking for.

The place is about 30 mins leisurely jeep ride from Cruz Bay past all the North shore beaches out to Coral Bay. Maho and Trunk (both awesome) are within a 10-20 min drive. Always able to fit the Jeep somewhere so bouncing around is easy. The owners have left an incredible amount of helpful information regarding beaches, restaurants, etc. and I can't wait to get back and explore some more.

My significant other and myself stayed at Simply St. John for a week and loved every moment. The view of the Bay was even more spectacular than in the pictures. We were looking directly below to the water and all the sailboat lights at night. We found the house to be just enough for us, clean, quaint and comfortable. Close to several restaurants and a short ride to the beaches. We found several books in the house as well as a map that gave us suggestions as to what beaches to visit each day. Nice touch with the handmade local island tile pieces in the house. In the mornings we left water in a dish for the humming birds to share our breakfast with us. At night we sat in the hot tub and watched the stars. We hiked three days, went to the beaches each morning and even used the kayak once. Great place that has the St. John island flavor.

Had a lovely stay at Simply St. John, Loved the island! Tips Go to the Vies, Tourist Trap. Best restaurant in town is Indigo Grill at the bottom of the hill. They have a great fresh menu and hospitable staff and owners.

Don’t miss Fort Frederickson at the battery right in Coral Bay hidden up on the hill past Carolina Coral.

Do go to Annaberg, Salt Pond, Rams Head, Drunk Bay, Trunk Bay and Reef Bay trail hike.

Best snorkelling @ Waterlemon

Bugs (no-see ums) got me! Only protection is full strength DEET and mosquito coils.

Thank you. Ed and Barbara for making us feel so welcome and comfortable. It was a pleasure to meet you and spend some time getting to know you. Thank you for planting so many beautiful plants on the property and for providing so many useful items from the beach chairs and snorkel gear right down to the water and salt and pepper. We are so glad we stayed here and only regret that we didn’t reserve this cottage for the entirety of our vacation good luck in all of your future endeavours and enjoy your time with your grandchildren. Thank you so much!

My girlfriend and I stayed here 12/28/14 through 1/2/15, and we loved everything about it. The cottage has more than enough room for two people. All the kitchen appliances were functioning properly, and the kitchen is equipped with everything we needed to cook meals and make cocktails. There is a ceiling fan in the kitchen/living/bathroom area. The bathroom is spacious enough with plenty of shelf space for storing all of our toiletries. The outdoor shower has hot water and is a delight to use. The bedroom has a comfortable bed, a mosquito net, a ceiling fan, an extra fan on the wall, books, and a television. Plenty of windows allow pleasant breezes to travel through the rooms. The deck has a grill, a hot tub, two lounge chairs, and a table with two chairs. Overall, the cottage was clean, comfortable, and functional during our stay.

Beyond the basics, the owners are wonderful people who have added many thoughtful personal touches that really make the place feel special and welcoming. They have planted beautiful plants around the outside of the cottage and below the deck, enhancing the beautiful views of the cottage itself and Coral Harbor below. They have strategically placed solar powered lanterns on the decks and walkways. They have adorned the cottage with interesting and beautiful artwork with natural themes of the island. They have a kayak, two beach chairs, two fold-up camp chairs, and snorkel gear available for your enjoyment. They also have the cottage stocked with bug spray, sun block, and some drinking water to get you started. The cottage is stocked with some novels and some very helpful books, brochures, maps, and documents about things to do in St. John. The friendly owners personally gave us very helpful information about grocery stores, restaurants, beaches, and they were available to answer any questions we had. We felt as if we were guests in the home of a friend or family member.

The location of this cottage was perfect for us. It's far enough away from Cruz Bay but close enough to every beach on the island, and there are good grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby. The locals are friendly and helpful, and the neighborhood is very safe. I cannot stress enough the need to rent a Jeep to freely explore the island at your own pace. There are many places on the island that taxis do not travel. Staying at Simply St. John and reserving a Jeep in advance are excellent decisions.

This concludes our 5 day stay at Simply St. John. What a quaint place! Spectacular view, private, comfortable little place. We’re so glad we stayed in coral bay. So peaceful and pretty. Our jeep got us to so many beaches, trails, and restaurants. To make your store even more enjoyable….

Wear bug spray (w/deet) all of the time. Especially at nights sleeping or you will wake up with a ton of bites/

  • Rent a car we were able to see so much of the island
  • Take Eds advice and read his manual, take a map with you too!
  • Visit trunk bay, Cinnamon and Vies beach our favs
  • Eat and visit chateau Bordeaux, the view, service, and food was spectacular
  • Go to starfish grocery in Cruz Bay for food. Much better selection than love city
  • Buy spices and oil if you want to cook here
  • Roll up your car windows @ night because of rain and mosquitos.
  • Wear water shoes or hiking sandals on hikes so you can go through water

In all we had a blast. Hot temps, sun and clouds and some rain, this island has such friendly people. We felt very at home here. Great Vacation!

Coral Bay was the perfect fit for us. Slow pace and easy going, not much for the nightlife.

We spent most of our days snorkelling at various beaches. For us, Waterlemon Cay had the most exciting Wildlife, sea turtles sting rays (spotted eagle rays, star fish and pretty coral)

On Sunday, we headed over to the Moravian Church which surprised us with its warm welcome and passionate preaching. Brunch at Miss Lucys was delicious and relaxing.

This trip was a celebration for us. Our 10 year anniversary. As newlyweds we had planned a honeymoon to St. John that we never got to take because life happened. This was also our honeymoon, just 10 years later. Best part of the trip was sharing the experience with my best friend.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful little slice of perfection with us. It is exactly what we needed!

My fiancé and I stayed at Simply St John the week before we got married. It was a perfect way to relax before the big event. The cottage was very cute and quaint - it truly felt like a remote getaway even though you were close to all the needed amenities. We loved the kayak that was provided and used it every day! The views were amazing from the porch and the space was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend a jeep as the hill to get to cottage is quite steep! Can't wait to visit again :)

Guest MelandSteve , 04/2014

The house is absolutely adorable.  Beautiful view, hot tub on the deck, comfortable bed and cool breezes at night...perfect!  The house is walking distance to Coral Bay and several bars/restaurant, as long as you don't mind walking up and down a steep hill.  For us it was a short walk and we enjoyed it!  That said, I would recommend renting a car so that you can explore all that St John has to offer.  There is a great hike on a service dirt road that starts behind the Donkey Diner if you are up for that.  The owners of the house are wonderful people and we are so glad to have met them! They were an unexpected surprise in what was already a great experience!

We had an amazing time on our honeymoon to St. John.  We loved the quiet sense of remoteness that you get from Coral Bay.  The views are even more beautiful than the pictures.  Barbara and Ed provided us with a map of all of their favorite beaches.  It was nice to have someone familiar with the area to provide you with the inside info.  Our favorite, being Salt Pond for the beauty and snorkeling.  You might get to see some cute turtles!  We got to see some amazing sunrises, and sunsets from the deck.  Simply St. John became our home away from home. Being in an unfamiliar area, it feels great to feel comfortable.  We would be so busy during the day visiting the different beaches and snorkeling, it was such a sigh of relief to come home to our little cottages at the end of the day.  We hope that someday we will be able to return.  It was a long hall from northern California, but worth it once you get to that place that we called paradise. Thanks!

We had an absolutely wonderful time and so enjoyed the home. The view was even better than we anticipated and we loved the privacy, the hot tub and the cool breezes. The home was clean and provided everything we needed. We enjoyed kayaking at Haulover and Princess Bay and visited almost every restuarant in Coral Bay.
We loved Coral Bay and are so glad we stayed there rather than in busy Cruz Bay. We swam at most every beach and found the location great for sightseeing and traveling the island. Our favorite beach was Salomon Bay and we even enjoyed the nature hike to get there. We are still in awe of the beauty of the beaches on St. John. We would stay again for sure.

Guest Amy , 07/2012

We couldn't have asked for a better location to explore the fabulous beaches and hiking trails of St John. With simple elegance, the villa owners have shared the comforts of their home to appreciate the beautiful views, savor a welcoming hot tub, and sleep in a cozy bed after a day enjoying the true beauty of St. John. After spending part of this vacation at the Westin, I would honestly prefer the character and charm of Coral Bay! Thank you for a wonderful stay! Location is perfect!

We had such a great week at Simply St. John - it was our first time to St. John, and after a week or so at Simply St. John, WE LOVE V.I.!

The bed is comfy and the kitchen, bathroom and living area are adequately appointed, functional and breezy. There was no one home that we could detect at the neighboring cottages (there are a few cottages nearby, but the dense and well-tended garden bushes and trees provide plenty of privacy even if there are neighbors), and it felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. The bird's-eye view of Coral Bay provides constant entertainment without any encroachment on privacy. The grill is functional and convenient to the kitchen. The table for two on the deck is well-placed and perfect for breakfast and dinner for two (lunch out there would be a little sunny). The two cushioned deck lounges are perfect for reading your spy novels or whatever while keeping an eye on the sailboats down in the harbor. The outdoor shower is functional and perfect for a rinse after a day at the beach. Tiny lizards of many varieties and frequent bird and butterfly visits provide deck companionship. It's up a steep but well-paved drive, so you'll probably want to have a car unless you're OK with long walks. The location is convenient by car to the East End, points south including Lameshur Bay, as well as to the North Side beaches (15 minute drive to each). The owners are very helpful, responsive and easy to do business with.

Our stay at Simply St. John had us saying, "I LOVE V.I.!!!" many times daily. It was magical. We're coming back!

We enjoyed our stay at Simply St. John. The towels, kitchenette, and deck accommodations were perfect. The view is to die for and is very accurate to the pictures. It was a great location at Coral Bay - easy entrance to street, centrally located for all beach adventures and some dining, and yet away from the busier Cruz Bay, although it was far from the only gas station (don't be fooled by the signs!).  The flora and fauna were definitely an adventure with all of the lizards, donkeys, ants, etc.  Thank you!

Guest mountainCO , 07/2011

Absolutely EVERYTHING we wanted to say was written in the review just before this one, aside from one thing. We visited Caneel Bay for the day, and left saying that without a doubt, we would pick Simply St. John over a stay at Caneel Bay any day of the week! The peace, comfort, and superbly relaxing atmosphere was top notch. We LOVED every minute of it!

Guest Anna , 04/2011

Simply St. John is simply the best! If you prefer Coral Bay to Cruz Bay, would rather explore than be confined to a resort, and prefer the relative privacy of a cottage to the bustle of the Westin then this is the place for you. We stayed for four days during late March, and found the cottage to be a perfect base for touring the less crowded east side of St. John. The location was ideal for us, being a short drive (or even walk) from Skinny Legs and The Donkey Diner, two of the Islands best (and quirkiest) establishments. Nestled up in the hills above Coral Bay, we'd enjoy morning coffee on the multiple decks looking down on the harbor while we planned our day.(The cottage was equipped with beach chairs, a cooler , and even snorkel gear). After hiking to Brown Bay, snorkeling at Salt Pond Beach, or simply relaxing at Francis Bay we'd retreat to the hot tub and enjoy a glass of rum while watching the sun set. A short drive then brought us to one of many excellent Coral Bay restaurants for dinner. The cottage is perfect for a couple, with a bedroom unit and a separate living room/kitchen/bathroom. The shower is outdoors, and as with everywhere on St. John you need to be conscious about how much water you use. The main reason to go to the island isn't to spend time indoors, however. We spent as little time inside as possible, enjoying the decks to their fullest. There is a helpful caretaker next door, and a good supermarket in the local mini mall. There is a gas grill for cook outs, although we found that it was tough to compete with the burgers art Skinny Legs. Staying here truly captures the St. John experience.

Just off the beaten path, but close enough to everything !!  The view from the deck is breathtakingly beautiful , sitting in the hot tub after a day of snorkeling and hiking was bliss!! The caretakers were very helpful when questions arouse but were invisible for the most part, solitude ,romance, peaceful tranquility you couldn't find a better place to write a novel or read one.  Clean, comfortable, just Heaven on Earth  Will stay here again!!!!

Guest Cliff , 10/2009

Just a wonderful place to stay, clean, relaxing and quiet! Great view of Coral Bay, and beyond. The sunrise from the deck is outstanding. We will be back again!
