Modified, But Definitely On
On Sunday, May 27th, 2018 Friends of Virgin Islands National Park will host the 15th Annual Power Swim, Hurricane Version on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. As a result of the hurricanes of September 2107, Virgin Islands National Park is still in a state of recovery and there will be less volunteers and boats available to assist with this event. The Power Swim will therefore be conducted in an abbreviated format with just two courses, both of which will start and finish at Trunk Bay. We fully expect to return to the traditional format in 2019. Interested in volunteering? Please contact Karen Jarvis at [email protected]
This year’s race consists of two (roughly) circular courses. The Short Course will be about 1 mile within Trunk Bay, and the Long Course will be about 2 miles going out and around Johnson’s Reef and then back to the starting point.
Please see the course description and maps for more information. The race this year will be for solo swimmers only – there will not be any relay teams. Swimmers may compete assisted by snorkel and/or fins in an “assisted swimmer” category. Click here to view the course map.
Register remotely for the event online @friendsvinp.org (closes May 25th, 6pm) or over the phone at +1(340)779-4940.
As in years past, Windspree offers special rates to visitors entering the race. Please ask for Friends of Park Power Swim rates when booking!
