  1. We came to Sail View to spend 10 glorious days in St John. We loved being in Coral Bay.
Tips and advice for future guests: Bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen., Lameshure, Woodys & Skinnys.
Our Special Message to the Host: Sail View was so nice! The porch was great – some sort of umbrella or shade would make it even better!

  2. My wife and I returned to Sail View for 6 nights December 5-11 after having spent a week in the house this past April. Return visits themselves endorse a place. We had the house to ourselves this trip, occupying the main quarters on the upper level. The house is great value, and is very clean. Beautiful view of Coral Bay and easy access ample flat parking. Nice deck with picnic benches and a gas grill. The cleanliness test is walking around the house barefoot for an hour or so and then checking the bottom of your feet. Some houses look clean, but the bottoms of your feet will soon be dirty. That indicates the floors have been swept but not mopped. Sail View is absolutely clean, and visitors should keep it so by not wearing footwear past the front door.

We did have an issue with the master bedroom a/c upon arrival. It was dead, and we do appreciate cool sleeping quarters. Not a problem this trip because a downstairs bedroom was unlocked and had a functioning a/c. We slept downstairs only one night as Karen had a new replacement a/c installed before noon the following day. That’s remarkable response and service anywhere; for St John, it’s surreal. I can say that based on 20 prior visits to Coral Bay area rental houses over the past 14 years.

WiFi internet service is excellent at Sail View. For those of us who still do consulting work and are always on call, that’s a necessity in a rental unit. Also, anybody who uses Sprint cellular [or almost anybody not with AT&T] will find wifi calling the only service you’ll have for your smartphone in Coral Bay. WiFi calling allows us to stay in contact with the homefront in Houston and with relatives and friends. As of the first week of December, you’ll also need wifi internet to watch tv if you’re so inclined. Cable tv service has not yet been restored post-Irma, but the 40″ Sony in the main living area is a smart set that has been programmed to receive wireless casting [YouTube, for example] or you can use an HDMI cable to connect to an iPhone of iPad [Netflix or Prime Video, for example]. No problem for folks with basic tech knowledge, but some older folks may require Windspree management assistance if they want to watch late-night movies or ball games with primary connection via an OSi device.

For those of us who don’t care about pools and hot tubs and don’t mind a rough [but short] drive off the main road, Sail View is a high-quality option that doesn’t break the bank. Very nice kitchen and open concept family area.

Here’s a travel hint for those folks who want to access their stateside cable tv service [Comcast, for example] on their iPhones or iPads, but find the streaming service is not available outside of the continental USA. You can use an IP address masking service [such as IP Vanish] for a nominal fee or possibly a free trial to allow you to change your visible IP address to a city within the USA. That works fine whether you’re in the USVI or Puerto Rico or Europe or New Zealand. That’s based on my personal experience. Since IP Vanish sets up a VPN, you will have to disconnect from it to access some websites [Bank of America and Charles Schwab, for example] that won’t connect via a VPN. Not a big deal.
