  1. Now that I am beginning to recover somewhat from whatever nasty bug I contracted on the way down to beautiful St John’s I wanted to take a moment to tell you how nice the house and island and restaurants (save one) were.

Once we got over the drive up to the house-you probably should advise 4 wheel drive rentals only- the house was very comfortable, stunning views and although we really did not use the kitchen area except for breakfasts, it offered everything we desired.

I was told by the other family members that the snorkeling was superb, and that is coming from well travelled Caribbean savvy divers. Maybe next visit I can stay well enough to venture out into the sea.

As for dining, the restaurants were very, very good for both lunches and dinners( I actually made 4 of the 7 nights out for dinner-unfortunately one night was Sunday at Concordia where the ONLY menu item was pizza and it was terrible-actually the proper verbiage is a foul mouthed term that will go unmentioned).

Locals and visitors alike were very friendly and everyone had a very very nice time.

Hope to be able to get the family back there soon although we were informed that son’s wife is expecting #1child and that may put a crimp into international travel for a year or so for them but what a happy announcement we received nonetheless.

  2. Formerly a Bed & Breakfast, check out what past guests have to say about Sail View. And while we can’t compete with former owner Eilene’s banana bread, we do hope you will enjoy the opportunity to rent the entire house:

The place is very nicely located offering breathtaking views of the bay. This place is a hidden gem, a great base to discover the beauty of the island. Banana bread prepared by Eileen was delicious and hard to forget. Overall, the stay at Sailview was the highlight of our trip.

  3. The room is truly spectacular. All of the furniture is handmade and perfectly appointed. The room is spotlessly clean and smells amazing. The fridge was stocked with sodas, beer, fruit, yogurt, half and half, coffee, etc. They provide a cooler and chairs, which we appreciated so much as we beach hopped the whole week. The views are absolutely gorgeous and the outdoor kitchen and cooking area is very convenient.

There are so many things to love about St. John’s. Coral Bay is really the place to be. Its quiet and Island rustic- a real get-a-way. Aqua Bistro, Skinny Legs, Ms. Vies and the Tourist Trap were our favorites. We recommend the Ram’s head hike, snorkeling at Waterlemon, and kayaking with the group that Eileen recommends. We wished we could’ve stayed longer and I definitely cried on our last day because I didn’t want to to leave. We are already planning our next trip back to Sailview!

  4. The cloud-high view from our Sailview veranda was over fronds, leaves and flowers of every description, into Coral Bay, a sailboat haven nestled between the embracing arms of a lush mountain side, soft with the verdant breath of a tropical paradise…Mike’s story is amazing: artist, motion pictures, textile designer, single handed a 21 foot sailboat from Florida to St. John. He lived on a boat for 5 years while he built Sailview–hurricane proof, marble floors and bath, hand-made furniture…(and snorkeling in Trunk Bay)…1000’s of schooling neons, occasional black spiny sea urchins, parrot fish, lemon peel (pink with purple stripes), purple fans, anemones, then home to Eileen’s wonderful fruit salsa over fresh grilled mahi. Yeah, it’s that good.
